As a young girl growing up in church, Nicole Tay enjoyed going for Emerge camps. At one of these camps, she made a decision in her heart to use her life to serve the Lord. However, as she entered into her teenage years, Nicole found herself battling with depression, anxiety, and acceptance. In spite of how she felt, Nicole “dragged herself” for this year’s Emerge Camp and experienced “God-moments” that lifted her heart and spirit out of depression. Although Nicole is not completely out of the woods, camp has helped her to form a strong community of support. The encounters with God have also enabled her to seek His presence each time she feels hopeless and downcast. Today, Nicole is learning to lean on the Holy Spirit for strength, and to exchange the spirit of heaviness with the joy of the Lord.
